What will you do in 2018?

January 31, 2018

We’re a month into another new year and it’s a great time to see how we’re all doing with our New Year’s resolutions.

It likely comes as no surprise that the top resolution for this year, and most years, is to get healthy. This according to searches on Google compiled by digital marketing company iQuanti. And since total body-health starts with your mouth, we’ll start there as well.

1. Get Healthy: The Mouth-Body Connection

According to the American Dental Association, there is evidence that bacteria and inflammation linked to gum disease may be connected to other health problems including heart disease and stroke. Additionally, studies suggest that women who are pregnant and have gum disease may be at increased risk of delivering pre-term and/or having low-birthweight infants.

There are many things you can do to be healthier, including flossing regularly and brushing twice a day. It’s also important to see your dentist at least twice a year. Professional cleanings are the only way to remove tartar which traps bacteria along the gum line causing gum disease. It’s also important to tell your dentist about any recent health changes. Just as the health of your mouth affects your body, the health of your body can affect your mouth. And if you suspect there is something wrong, never delay in having it checked out.

2. Decluttering

Reducing stress through better organization and decluttering is a benefit of the second-most popular resolution this year. A messy home or work space can leave you feeling anxious and overwhelmed, even hopeless. And clutter is a visual signal to your brain that your work is never done. So if decluttering is on your 2018 list, you know what you need to do!

3. Living Life to the Fullest

As much as we would love to, we can’t slow down time. Which makes living life to the fullest an important 2018 resolution for many. Tips to achieve this goal include learning to appreciate the moment, deciding what’s important to you and doing it, and remembering that sometimes, happiness takes work.

Rounding off the top resolutions list are learning new hobbies, traveling, and reading more.

And good news, if your goal is reading more, congratulations! This article counts towards your goal! See, you’re already off to a great start!
